Beyond the Shadows: Luke's Path to Healing

In 2020, as the pandemic affected us all, one of our brothers, Luke Reyes, a tech minister, faced the darkest phase of his life. At just 14 to 15 years old, he was diagnosed with spinal tuberculosis that significantly impacted his brain. This condition left him without control over his bodily functions from the waist down, causing memory loss, including forgetting friends and childhood experiences. His engagement with the community diminished, and physically, his body weakened. Mentally, his memory struggled, and emotionally, he felt like he was dying.

Luke battled internally, often escaping reality through sleep and exhausting himself with tears and prayers. He questioned why he had to endure such trials at a young age, leading to self-doubt and fear of judgment. His faith was shaken, especially during a life-threatening operation.

Yet, even in these challenges, God remained faithful. Luke had a supportive family who accompanied him through hospital visits and reminded him that there was more to life than this dark moment. Through their prayers, Luke found the strength to move forward, realizing he couldn’t change the past but could choose to fight for his future with God’s guidance.

Today, Luke is still recovering. He uses a cane to protect his fragile bones and continues to battle negative thoughts and self-esteem issues. However, his faith in the Lord empowers him to see the positive in his circumstances and believe that with God, he can overcome future challenges. If you’re facing a dark moment, find comfort in knowing that with our Living God, there’s always a way to experience victory.
